Say hi to Kattie
Who am I?
I am a mom of two with a background in Early Childhood Education (ECE). I hold a Diploma in Special Needs & Infant Toddler Education from Douglas College. I have always loved working with kids and their families. I have worked in childcare centres and preschools for the last eight years.
I had my first child, Dax, in 2017. By the time my son turned eight months old, I was exhausted and knew we needed to make a change but had no idea where to start. I researched, I googled for hours, and I read a ton of books. I quickly realized that there is no one-size-fits-all sleep training method that worked for everyone. I wanted something gentle but effective. I wasn’t comfortable with letting my son cry for hours, but I also knew I needed to do something because the problem was only getting worse, not better. I compiled all the research I did, came up with a sleep plan, and stuck to it. With my only support being my husband, Nick, we did it and finally started sleeping again. My son was happy that his sleep needs were being met. My husband was happy to be back in bed, and our marriage was no longer tense from lack of sleep and communication.
Seeing the success I had with my own son, I then became the sleep expert for all my friends and family. I loved doing it but was not quite sure how to make it into my full-time career. When my second child Ellie was born at the end of 2019, I was planning on returning to my job. But when 2020 rolled around, and things got turned around with COVID, I came across an ad for becoming a Sleep Consultant, and it all just clicked for me that this is what I needed to do. I love helping families reach their sleep goals, and nothing feels better than hearing that a child has slept through the night for the very first time.
I think back on how hard it was training my son without the support of someone other than my husband (who was very supportive but had limited knowledge on how to help me). I do not want anyone ever to have to go through that on their own. So, I am here to help with all my humour, knowledge, and support.
